Phelps's W.Va. family ecstatic over historic win

To the rest of the world, U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps is a record-breaking phenom and a world-class Olympian. To the McDonald family in Petersburg, Grant County, he's a cousin to be proud of. Because of the five-hour broadcast delay, Diana McDonald didn't know when Croatia Euro 2012 Jersey reached at her home Tuesday afternoon that her cousin had just secured his 15th Olympic gold medal. Phelps, who was the anchor for the U.S. team, took the gold in the men's 4x200 freestyle relay in the London games. That medal also secured him a place in the record books. With 19 medals, including 15 gold, Phelps is now the Olympian holding the most medals ever. He also has two silver and two bronze. McDonald knew about the silver he won earlier Tuesday in the men's 200 butterfly after a family member called. She hadn't heard about the latest swim. "We're just so excited for him," she said. "He's going to be really well known now." McDonald's father and Phelps' grandfather are brothers. She and Phelps' mother, Debbie, are first cousins. She said her 82-year-old father, Joe Davisson, tears up when he watches Phelps swim on television from his home in Maryland. "He just can't believe it," she said. She said the family usually meets up every October at the Autumn Glory Festival in Oakland, Md., but Phelps hasn't been in a number of years because of his many commitments. She said the 27-year-old swimmer is somewhat shy but also very funny and his smile is infectious. The McDonalds - Diana; her husband, John; and her two grown children -- have been to several of Phelps' races in the Baltimore-Towson area, where the swimmer is from, but have not been to any of the Olympic games in which he has competed. His appearance in London is his fourth Olympics. He also competed in Sydney, Athens and Beijing. The McDonalds own a car parts store in Petersburg. The family erected a large sign in the front yard of their Petersburg home cheering on Phelps for the 2008 Beijing games. He racked up eight gold medals in Beijing, one for every event he competed in. McDonald was overjoyed during the 2008 games. She said seeing her cousin Debbie so excited made her happy. She put the sign back up Saturday morning, the day the swimming competition began and the first official day of the London games. The sign is decorated with a red, white and blue bow and is accompanied by the American flag. Her father also has a sign supporting Phelps in his yard. Knowing the outcome of the 400-meter individual medley helped temper her Wholesale Soccer Jerseys nerves before she sat down to watch Saturday. Because the events are tape delayed, she had been told beforehand that he placed fourth. Phelps lost to teammate Ryan Lochte, who took his first gold for the 2012 games. "I don't know what happened there," she said of the event. "It was disappointing and heartbreaking for him." But watching him come back with a strong performance in the 4x100 freestyle relay to earn a silver medal was great, she said. "We're jumping up and down and screaming, and there's almost always tears," she said, describing what it's like to watch him swim. "There's usually a lot of yelling at the TV." She said they would watch the rest of his events as they air on television. Phelps still has a number of events left in the games and more chances for medals. After that, the swimmer has said he plans to retire. "We are so proud of him and so glad he's a member of our family," she said. "We support him even when he's not swimming. We just love him."

Swiss Olympic team expels soccer player for racist, violent Twitter message

LONDON — A Swiss soccer player was expelled from the Olympics on Monday for his threatening and racist message on Twitter about South Koreans. The comments by Michel Morganella came hours after Switzerland lost to South Korea. Morganella “discriminated against, insulted and violated the dignity of the South Korea football team as well as the South Korean people,” Swiss Olympic team chief Gian Gilli said through a translator at a Toms Shoes news conference. He said the player was stripped of his Olympic accreditation. Morganella is the second athlete kicked off a London Olympics team for offensive Twitter comments, following Greek triple jumper Voula Papachristou. He posted the message after playing in the 2-1 loss against South Korea on Sunday. He said in the tweet that South Koreans “can go burn” and referred to them as a “bunch of mongoloids.” The 23-year-old player later released a contrite statement through Swiss Olympic. “I am sincerely sorry for the people of South Korea, for the players, but equally for the Swiss delegation and Swiss football in general. It’s clear that I’m accepting the consequences.” “After the disappointing result and the reaction from Korea that followed, I made a huge error,” Morganella added. Officials from the South Korea team declined to comment when asked about Morganella during a news conference Monday at Wembley Stadium that had been scheduled before the uproar. Gilli said the player had been “provoked” by comments sent to his Twitter account after the match. Still, the Swiss team leader acknowledged that Morganella had to be sent home under the terms of the International Olympic Committee’s code of conduct, which requires athletes to show mutual respect. “In this case, we felt we have no alternative,” Gilli said. Swiss media published images of a tweet from Morganella’s account (at)morgastoss. The account has since been deleted. The tweet was written in a garbled form of French, appearing to combine a kind of French slang called verlan and text-messaging style. Swiss officials with the team in Cardiff, Wales, said players were told Morganella was already on his way home. Gilli said he had tried to contact the head of the South Korean team in London to offer a personal explanation. “We would like to apologize, especially to the South Korea National Olympic Committee and the South Korea Football Association for the behavior of the player,” he said. The IOC has encouraged the 10,800 athletes at the London Games to communicate cheap Toms Red Canvas Women's Classics with fans through social media, but it issued guidelines on the standards of behavior it expected. Morganella played the entire game in both of Switzerland’s matches. He received a yellow card against South Korea in Coventry. The Swiss drew 1-1 with Gabon in Newcastle on Thursday. Switzerland plays its final group match against Mexico on Wednesday, needing to win by two goals to have a chance of advancing. “We have to focus on the game,” coach Pierluigi Tami said. “The other stuff we don’t want to think about. Maybe we shouldn’t read any newspapers for the next two days.” Morganella debuted with the senior national team in May and currently plays for the Italian club Palermo. “We hope that he will draw the necessary lessons for his still young football career,” Gilli said. Last week, Greece Olympic officials tossed Papachristou off the team after she posted a comment mocking African immigrants and supporting a far-right political party. Associated Press writer Chris Brummitt contributed to this report from Cardiff, Wales.

StayCharged Batteries - A New Development in Recharging Technology

StayCharged batteries are Duracell's new range of rechargeable batteries that represent a significant step forward in power cell technology. Standard rechargeable batteries suffer from one major flaw - once charged, if they are not used immediately, they begin to lose power. Most rechargeable batteries will lose their charge entirely after just two or three weeks. This means that they cannot be stored for any length of time, which reduces their convenience value.StayCharged batteries, however, utilise the very latest in battery technology to overcome this obstacle. The StayCharged range are cheap toms glitter black unique in that they will hold 80% of their charge for up to a year when not in use. This added dependability means that you can be confident that you'll still get optimum performance from your batteries even if they were charged months ago. With the proliferation of sophisticated high-drain modern electronic devices, such as digital cameras and MP3 players, it's more important than ever to be sure that your batteries will deliver when you need them most. There is nothing more frustrating than having batteries fail on you unexpectedly. One of the benefits of the StayCharged range is that you can keep a set of batteries as spares should your current set run out of charge, and you don't have to worry about the backup batteries being just as flat as the ones they are replacing.Because standard rechargeable batteries lose their power over a relatively short period of time, they are sold uncharged, as they would lose their charge anyway before they left the shelves. Due to their ability to hold a charge for such long periods, however, StayCharged batteries come pre-charged and ready to use straight out of the box. Many Wholesale Toms Shoes rechargeable battery users find themselves having to resort to disposables when their batteries fail unexpectedly, because they don't have time to charge a fresh set. Although cheaper in the short term, the cost of using disposables soon mounts up, whereas rechargables quickly pay for themselves after just a few charges. StayCharged batteries can be charged using a standard home charger, so there's no need to invest in any extra equipment to take advantage of this sophisticated new technology.Duracell have a long history of innovation and technical breakthroughs in the power cell industry, and the StayCharged range is another example of their expertise in action. Combining the cost-effectiveness of rechargeable batteries with the convenience of disposables, StayCharged represents a significant step forward in battery technology.

Nasi in any form, is still Nasi

Malaysians are all big fans of the nasi lemak, and this is probably the most popular form of nasi (rice) that we all know and love. But take a drive to the East Coast of Malaysia and you will notice this nasi, taking on a different form. The good news is that KL-lites do not have to go so far. If you Nike Free 7.0 Dame venture into Solaris Dutamas, you will find the restaurant "Wau Penyu" , that does and awesome array of Malay rice dishes from Kelantan and Terengganu. 1. Nasi Tumpang Nasi Tumpang is characterised by it's unique, conical shape and is normally packed in banana leaf along with other meats and curry gravies. So the story goes, that back in the day, the men used to work in the field and during lunch time, the women would pack them a Malay rice lunch and send it out to the fields for the men to have their meals, whilst they took their afternoon break. The shape of the Nasi Tumpang is such (compact and conical) to facilitate easy packing so that the women who rode out on their bikes to the fields, could bring as many as possible in their carrier to the men. The flavours of the Nasi Tumpang are fantastic- fiery hot and in a sweet gravy. All the ingredients contain some element of spiciness such as the serunding daging (beef floss), gulai ikan (fish curry) or shrimp and bits of curry chicken sandwiched inside the banana leaf, fusing into the rice and adding flavour and heat to the dish. It really is a complete meal in one. The smooth starchy rice comes with my favourite side dishes such as egg/omelette, meat, cucumber and lots of curry sauce. The perfect balanced meal and the men of the fields know it too! 2. Laksam Laksam is one of Terengganu's delicious, mouth-watering local delicacies. It's a different kind of laksa or noodles Nike Free Run 3 Dame compared to Penang Assam Laksa, Laksa Sarawak or any other kind of laksa from other states in Malaysia. Laksam of Terengganu is a delightful yet simple dish, prepared using either wheat and rice flours. The mixture are thinly spread, rolled and sliced between 2 cm into the bowl. I still classify this under "rice" because the noodles are served as cubes of rice, rather than the conventionally long strings of noodles and it is mainly made out of rice flour. The gravy is made from fish meat which is boiled, pureed, and later mixed with coconut milk. This rice dish served with white sauce made from fish, shrimp paste and coconut milk and garnish with raw vegetables like shredded cucumber, long beans, bean sprout and cabbage is fabulous as a light lunch.
